Facebook connect feature disabled for several Microsoft Services

Posted on June 19, 2015

Several Microsoft products and services are no longer integrated with Facebook via Facebook connect.

Users who are using Facebook features in apps in Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone will no longer work according to Windows Central report. Among the affected products are Outlook.com Contacts, Calendar sync, Windows 8.x People and Calendar apps, OneDrive Online, Office 365 Outlook Web app and more.

The reason for the said disintegration is due to Facebook’s update to their Graph application programming interface (API). Facebook’s Graph API is the tool used to connect a Microsoft account to Facebook.

Back in 2010, Facebook has announced its plan to remove Facebook Connect and replace it with the Open Graph protocol. To remedy the situation, Microsoft has posted support articles offering solutions to those users relying on Facebook Connect integration.
