APEC Digital Opportunity Center
Opens in Manila

The Commission on
Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and the Chinese
Taipei government, will inaugurate the APEC Digital Opportunity
Center (ADOC), to be located at the Smokey Mountain, in the city
of Manila, on June 14, at 2:30 � 4:30 P.M.
This training laboratory, at the Smokey Mountain is intended to
be a model of turning digital divide into a digital opportunity.
It will be run by a cooperative, which trains its members in the
use of computers for e-trading. The laboratory will be the first
beneficiary of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
Digital Opportunity Center (ADOC) program.
Aside from the inauguration at the Smokey Mountain, CICT, as an
ADOC partner, and the ADOC Chinese Taipei, will also inaugurate
and formally open its first ADOC laboratory and Partner Office
on the same day. This will be at 9:30 a.m., at the 2nd floor of
the National Computer Center (NCC) Building, at the University
of the Philippines Campus, Diliman, Quezon City.
The highlight of the event will be the signing of a Memorandum
of Agreement between AsianInfra, representing Chinese Taipei,
and the CICT, representing the Philippines. ADOC�s training
laboratory will house state-of-the-art equipment to be used in
conducting ADOC�s courses and seminars. The ADOC-Partner Office,
on-the-other-hand, will closely coordinate with the ADOC-Secretariat
in Chinese Taipei, in implementing its calendar of activities
and projects. Some of the projects lined up for the year
include: ADOC Overseas Staff Training, e-Government Measurement
Star 100 Consulting Program, ADOC Week 2005, ICT Elite Camp-2005
and the Philippine ICT Month. ADOC is an independent, non-profit
organization, funded by the Chinese Taipei. It advocated the
