The Commission on
Information and Communications Technology (CICT), through the
NCC-CICT Field Operations Office (FOO), and Intel
Microelectronics Philippines, Inc., launched another Community
e-Center (CeC) in Lubao, Pampanga last October 25, 2005.
The said CeC is the 45th e-Center to be opened to the public,
according to FOO Director Maria Teresa C. Camba. As the lead
implementer of the Jumpstarting Electronic Governance in Local
Government Units, otherwise known as the e-LGU Project, NCC
aims to establish 100 CeCs nationwide, as one of the major
components in e-LGU project implementation.
Mayor Dennis G. Pineda lauded the government efforts towards
computerizing his municipality. In his speech, he thanked CICT
and Intel, in considering Lubao as one of the beneficiaries for
the CeC initiatives.
Mayor Pineda said that the CeC would be a great help to his
constituents, especially to the students who can now access ICT
through affordable means. He is optimistic that the CeC will be
offering online education applications in the near future. That
is, in addition to the present services being offered such as
Internet access, word processing, spreadsheets and other
applications.
Meanwhile, CICT Commissioner and concurrent Director General of
the NCC, Angelo Timoteo M. Diaz de Rivera, expressed his
gratitude in behalf of CICT, for Intels support to the project.
He added that ICT is an integral component in addressing the
digital divide. Likewise, ICT is a must towards the
transformation that will contribute to growth-building and other
socio-economic capabilities of the country.
Representatives from Intel Corporation, headed by John A. Antone,
who is the Vice President, Sales and Marketing Group and General
Manager Asia-Pacific, witnessed the launching together with
Ricky F. Banaag, Country Manager for Intel Microelectronics (Phils.)
and other Intel staff.
