Iloilo makes presence felt as
RPs IT hub
ILOILO CITY, Sept. 5 (PNA) -- Iloilo has already made its
presence known and felt as an Information and Technology (IT)
hub not only in the Philippines but in neighboring countries as
well.
Trade and Industry Provincial Director Diosdado Cadena disclosed
that Iloilo will play host to five major business process
outsourcing (BPO) players with the coming in of Teletech and
Sutherland Global Services before the year ends.
Last month, some members of the Iloilo Federation for
Information Technology (I-FIT) likewise attended an IT
conference in Cebu City where they made substantial contacts
with key IT players, Cadena said.
Considering that with IT everything would seem to be virtual
then we have our international presence known already, he said.
Meantime, the I-FIT, an organization that spearheads Iloilos
campaign to become IT competitive, Tuesday launched the
Information and Technology week, which is one avenue to further
showcase the potentials of Iloilo.
The event is participated by various IT players, academe and
related government agencies.
Among the activities that were lined up include lectures and
trainings on IT, call center fundamentals, call handling,
animation and web page development.
With the theme IT Innovates Iloilo, Cadena said that the
industry has brought a lot of better things for Iloilo thus
making it more competitive.
Iloilo is one of the areas identified within the cyber corridor
under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyos super region program.
