NEW DELHI, INDIA: Google Inc may bid for WiMax radio waves in India's upcoming auction, the Business Standard reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed industry sources.
India is set to auction third-generation (3G) and WiMax radio waves in January and foreign firms are allowed to participate in the auction although they will have to form a joint venture with a local firm if they win spectrum and can have a maximum of 74 percent stake in the venture.
As an alternative, Google could be just a technology partner to a telecom service provider, the paper said.
Google could not be immediately reached by Reuters for a comment. The paper said a Google spokesperson in India declined to comment.
