DAVAO CITY -- This city’s information technology sector is exploring the possibility of manning health desks within call centers that would make available online jobs to graduates from local nursing and medical schools.
Lisabel G. Holganza, president of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Davao, said there is a potential for local graduates to fill positions for nurses in contact centers that provide health-related support to employees of big companies overseas. Instead of going to hospitals, employees consult nurses online, she said, for general health-related advises.
Ms. Holganza, however, said details on how this emerging industry could benefit local call centers have yet to be available since a business model applicable to local setting has yet be drafted and certifications would be necessary before local nurses are accredited over seas.
Meanwhile, Ms. Holganza said the Philippine medical transcription industry will benefit from the new US health care policy that broadens medical insurance coverage.
