In an attempt to recognize the ICT sector as a major economic growth
contributor, Malacañang has decreed the month of June 2008 and every year
thereafter as National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month.
Proclamation No. 1521, signed on May 28, 2008 by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, placed
the National ICT Month under the auspices of the Commission on Information and Communications
Technology (CICT).
The CICT is the lead agency of the government for ICT-related concerns and initiatives.
"The ICT industry has traditionally celebrated June as ICT month. Now, Proclamation 1521 makes it
official that it will be celebrated in June of every year," CICT Chairman Ray Roxas–Chua III said in a statement.
Roxas-Chua said he is calling on government agencies and private companies to throw their support for the
activities that will help promote and strengthen the competitiveness of the Philippine ICT industry.
This year, CICT said the National ICT Month will kick off with various activities focusing on public service. The public,
it said, will get a preview of these services during the 110th anniversary of the country’s independence on June 12.
The CICT said it will also be setting up Internet kiosks with free access for the public at the CICT booth
at the Sentro K3 (Kagalingan, Kaisahan at Kalayaan ng Bayan) area in both Luneta and Baguio City.
